Two e-learning modules on computer-implemented inventions
The European Patent Academy has provided two e-learning modules on the patentability of computer-implemented inventions, that provide a nice introduction into the patentability of computer-implemented inventions:
- Module
I (14’48”)
This module provides an introduction into computer-implemented inventions. It defines the terms involved, provides the relevant provisions from the EPC and provides examples of patentable and non-patentable subjects.
- Module
II (20’18”)
The second module deals with how the European Patent Office deals with novelty and inventive step considerations when computer-implemented inventions are concerned and discusses three decisions of the Boards of Appeal, namely T 641/00 - Two identities/COMVIK, T 172/03 - Order management/RICOH, and T 258/03 - Auction method/HITACHI.
